PUBLIC PETITION
CALL FOR INVESTIGATION AND REMOVAL OF MR. MBU
JOSEPH MBU AS RIVERS STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE FOR IMPROPER AND
UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
MR. MBU JOSEPH MBU RIVER STATE POLICE COMMISSIONER |
The Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative
(CRGI) wish to draw your attention to a press briefing addressed on the 20th
June 2013 by the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu and
widely circulated in the national media on 21st June 2013 in which
he abused his office in casting aspersions on the character and integrity of
the office of the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State which is
unprofessional, undemocratic, unconstitutional, crude, barbaric, irresponsible,
provocative, reckless, improper, an assault of public peace and the 1999
constitution as amended.
The statements credited to Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu in
the said press briefing if indeed they are true, speaks volume of the image and
character of the Nigeria Police as a lawless institution lacking discipline and
decorum in which if urgent steps are not taken to correct this anomaly, then
our society is in grave danger.
By his reckless and provocative comments, Mr.
Mbu Joseph undermined and ridiculed his office as the No. 1 security officer of
Rivers State who cannot be entrusted with performing his impartial and
constitutional functions of securing the lives and properties of Nigerians and
Non Nigerians living in Rivers State.
He also acted unprofessionally, criminally and unconstitutionally
by daring anyone to go on street protest in River state without Police
permission in utter disregard and contempt of the fundamental human rights of
Nigerians as enshrined in the constitution. His comments shows that he’s not
worthy of the office he presently occupies and so he should be relieved.
It is in the light of this misconduct and
unprofessional behaviour of Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu a senior and serving security
officer that the Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative (CRGI) is hereby
calling on both Committees of the National Assembly to investigate and
recommend appropriate disciplinary actions for this law threatening officer as
a deterrent to other lawless officers of his like still in the security
agencies.
We are also calling on the Inspector General of
Police, Alhaji M. D. Abubakar to immediately recall Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu for
being a blemish to the sagging image of the Police and for threatening the
peace and tranquility of the good people of Rivers State by his unprofessional
and invitation to anarchy misconduct.
We want to as well use this medium to admonish
the IGP to as a matter of urgency and in tandem with his reformation agenda for
the Nigeria Police put in place a workable reorientation programme to redirect
the thinking and mentality of his men and officers on the duties and
responsibilities of a civil and disciplined Police force in a democratic
dispensation.
We also want to call on the Police Service
commission to ensure that appropriate disciplinary actions are taken against
Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu for bringing the image of the Nigeria Police to public
opprobrium by his unprofessional and improper misconduct.
