KUDOS TO THE NIGERIAN PRESS FOR THE REHABILITATION OF POLICE COLLEGE IKEJA

KUDOS TO THE NIGERIAN PRESS FOR THE REHABILITATION OF POLICE COLLEGE IKEJA

President Jonathan visit to Police college, Ikeja, Lagos
The Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative (CRGI) is indeed pleased and wish to use this medium to congratulate the ever dynamic, progressive, resilient and indomitable Nigerian media for its laudable work which has resulted in the near completion to world standards of the Police College Ikeja, Lagos.

One could recall that sometime in January 2013, an arm of the Nigerian media, precisely Channels TV as part of its social and constitutional responsibility as the watchdog of the society aired a documentary on the rot that had taken over the training institution of the Nigeria Police. The documentary seemed to have been informed by the concern of the media just like other responsible institutions and individuals in our society for a better and civil Nigeria Police.

The exposure even necessitated a Presidential visit. Unfortunately, this patriotic and progressive action of the media which is a critical organ for the development and sustenance of the society rather than be commended was misconstrued and condemned by the powers that be at the Federal level.

However, despite the numerous handicaps and challenges confronting it in a hostile Nigerian environment, the media has remained undaunted because its responsibility is to the larger society and this it has been discharging with utmost sense of pride and civility to the Nigerian people which deserves to be commended.

The result of the untiring and indomitable spirit of the Nigerian media is what has resulted in the near completion of the rehabilitated Police College to modern standards and which would be handed over to the Police authorities in some few days time.

In the light of this, we at (CRGI) whole heartedly commend the Nigerian media who have always been at the vanguard for a peaceful, just and prosperous society and we enjoin them not to rest on their oars because together we shall overcome and lay the foundation for a new Nigeria of our dreams.
